Sony Dcr Trv140e Driver For Mac
Yah, DV is somewhere in the neighborhood of 34MB/sec and USB can only push 12 (or some numbers close to that. I don't remember). So no dice on that, the USB on that camera is for transfering still pictures that you've taken into iPhoto, for example. And if you buy a FW cable, i can almost guarantee it will be 6pin - 4pin, 6 to 6 is only if the device needs power from the bus, but cameras are self powered, so that's not needed.
Though that would be pretty sweet if your camera could recharge with a 6 pin connection, like an iPod.Short Bus Driver Post #600 Woohoo! Quote: Also, the actual rate of transfer for Firewire is 400MB, and the rate for USB 1.0 is 30MB while USB 2.0 is 430MB. The advertised transfer speed of USB 1.1 is like 11 Mbps, that's different from MBps.
The little b means bits, and the big B means bytes. A byte is 8 bits. So, divide 11 by 8 to get MB (megaBYTES) per second 1.375 MBps. The advertised transfer speed of firewire is 400 Mbps.

That translates into 50 MBps. The difference is tremendous. Also, remember that these are advertised numbers, not real world at all.

I had recorded several videos and was anxious to transfer them on to my computer and then burn DVDs. I opened the camera box to find that the software provided with the Sony Handycam is for PCs only---there is no Mac installation disk.

YMMV and stuff. Quote: Originally posted by taibhse: Phyte: Get a FireWire card. That's the best solution. We have a Sony DCR-TRV340 and have been quite happy with the performance over FireWire. Or, does the DCR-TRV140 have the l/r audio and composite video?
If so and your beige G3 is an A/V model you could try that I suppose. I don't know if iMovie will work with it though, you'd have to use an intermediary app to import the video. The camera is not mine, its my mother in laws. The salesman told her that it would work with her PC, and it seems he basically lied. She doesn't have a firewire card or a USB 2.0 port.
I will tell her to buy a firewire card, and next time I'm up north I'll install it for her. I'm really pushing them to buy an iMac though, and I think I might have them sold.
